The Department of Political Science serves as the intellectual hub for professors, staff, undergraduate scholars, and graduate researchers passionate about political studies and academic growth. The department provides two bachelor's programs—one in political science and another in public and nonprofit administration—along with master's degrees in political science and public administration, plus a PhD in political science. Recognized as one of the University of Oklahoma's most diverse academic units, the department fosters exploration across numerous disciplines including American government, global comparative systems, international affairs, policy analysis, administrative studies, and political philosophy. No single intellectual approach dominates, as faculty and students from varied backgrounds explore knowledge through multiple perspectives. The department collaborates with several research centers including the Carl Albert Congressional Research Center, OU POLL (Public Opinion Learning Lab), the Institute for Public Affairs, International and Area Studies, the Institute for American Constitutional Heritage, and the Center for Applied Social Research.

Qualification Requirements

Admission to the University of Oklahoma is based on completion of a rigorous secondary school curriculum, demonstrated by a recognized certificate of completion that would qualify you for entrance into a university in your country.

Minimum 3.0 GPA

Applicants must submit official transcripts from each institution attended.

Freshman must submit official transcripts from all secondary or middle schools attended. If secondary school in your country includes standardized graduation exams and certificates, official copies of these should be submitted.
All freshman applicants are required to submit one letter of recommendation, two additional letters may be submitted.

Any high school official, including a counselor, teacher, principal, etc. Preferably someone who knows the student well.
Students will need to know the name and email address of their preferred recommender so he/she can be contacted about composing the letter of recommendation.
