The English Department offers comprehensive studies in literature, criticism, and language, equipping students with strong writing abilities, analytical thinking, value assessment, and idea articulation. These competencies, crucial in today's interconnected world, open diverse career paths in public relations, communications, business, legal fields, journalism, and teaching. The program features two specialization paths: Literary/Cultural Studies or Writing. The Literary and Cultural Studies concentration examines texts, literary movements, genres, themes, and authors within their cultural frameworks, with coursework focusing on interpretation, narrative, discourse, linguistics, and sociohistorical developments. The Writing specialization allows students to concentrate on creative writing (including poetry and prose), composition studies, rhetoric and literacy (CRL), or blended approaches. This track involves studying written communication theories, applying them across multiple formats, and investigating topics like creative processes, literacy development, linguistic studies, and writing's intersection with digital media and cross-cultural contexts.
