A classics degree introduces students to the primary languages, key literary works, and societies of ancient Greece and Rome. Beyond exploring these early civilizations, classics students also examine how classical traditions have profoundly influenced Western literature, arts, and broader culture. The program emphasizes essential skills for the modern era: effective verbal and written expression, analytical reasoning, and information processing. Classics scholars delve into the linguistic, literary, cultural, and historical aspects of Greek and Roman antiquity. Our department provides bachelor's programs in classical studies, classical languages, and Latin, along with minor options in classical civilization, Greek, or Latin studies.
