Art History students typically have a deep interest in how artistic styles evolved across different cultures. At OU's Art History program, learners examine paintings, sculptures, and architectural works in a dynamic environment, surrounded by Studio Art, Media, and Visual Communications students creating new works. The nearby Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art has significantly expanded its collections through recent donations, particularly in Native American Art, Taos School paintings, and Impressionist works, while also maintaining impressive photography and print collections. Alongside art history classes, undergraduates complete humanities coursework in subjects like history, literature, anthropology, philosophy, or other fine arts disciplines within the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts—including dance, music, and theater. The degree requires four foreign language courses and nine studio art credits, creating an interdisciplinary program with numerous elective options. Annual museum studies seminars and internship opportunities further enhance the educational experience.
