The Ernest G. Welch School of Arts & Design and The College of the Arts provide a combined undergraduate/graduate pathway in Art History. This accelerated program allows students to earn both bachelor's and master's degrees in as little as five years. While dual-degree acceptance grants early access, official graduate program admission occurs during senior year and depends on: 1) completing undergraduate requirements, 2) maintaining program GPA standards, 3) demonstrating success in graduate-level coursework taken during undergraduate studies, and 4) fulfilling all other program-specific admission criteria.
This unique pathway combines a Bachelor of Arts with an Art History focus and a Master of Arts in Art History. Qualified undergraduates can begin taking graduate courses that count toward both degrees during their final undergraduate years.
Formal approval from both the school and College of Arts is required before undergraduates can enroll in graduate courses. Importantly, dual program acceptance doesn't guarantee master's program admission. Students must complete standard graduate application procedures (excluding GRE requirements for Art History M.A. dual-degree applicants) and can only pursue the non-thesis master's option through this pathway.
