Scientists in the IBMS Chemical Biology and Molecular Pharmacology group apply medicinal chemistry concepts to investigate pharmaceuticals and their mechanisms, create synthetic molecules for potential new medications, and manipulate biological processes in both healthy and diseased states. Their specialized knowledge encompasses synthetic chemistry (including combinatorial methods and natural product synthesis), computer-aided drug discovery, toxicity and metabolic studies, and biological assay creation. The work focuses on blending biological and chemical approaches, providing students with comprehensive education at this interdisciplinary junction while teaching them to utilize chemical variety for biological insights and medical progress.
