Help define how history evolves in academia, government, and scholarly exploration. Our History Department's master's programs equip students for varied professional paths in research, teaching, public service, and beyond traditional academic settings. Tailor your studies to U.S. or European history, ancient civilizations, or numerous non-Western regions.
With graduate seminars typically limited to 8-12 participants, you'll benefit from individualized faculty guidance. Course options span the aforementioned specialties plus environmental studies, imperial history, and gender studies. The department particularly excels in Texas history, military history, and culinary history. Through rigorous reading, writing projects, and focused seminars, you'll enhance your critical analysis, composition, investigative, and public speaking abilities.
Our instructors are accomplished scholars with multiple publications, prestigious research funding, and global recognition in their disciplines. MA candidates must show competency in a foreign language pertinent to their research focus, while MS candidates have no language requirement. The competencies developed through historical study provide exceptional groundwork for countless career possibilities. History students cultivate precise evidence evaluation, compelling communication techniques, and appreciation for diverse viewpoints and narratives.
