Showcase your musical skills in UNT's prestigious graduate program. The Instrument Studies department provides a Master of Music performance degree with concentrations in: violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, guitar, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, and multiple woodwind instruments. Our students and alumni have earned accolades in top-tier competitions across all musical styles and secured roles in professional orchestras, wind ensembles, and academic institutions worldwide.
When you enroll in UNT's Instrumental Performance graduate program, you become part of a distinguished network of musicians who have triumphed in international competitions and hold prestigious positions with symphony orchestras, concert bands, and music schools globally.
A defining feature of our program is the personalized mentorship from acclaimed performers and educators during private lessons. Our Instrumental Studies division boasts 34 full-time faculty and 20 adjunct instructors from elite ensembles including the Dallas Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, and Dallas Opera. As one of America's most extensive music institutions, we provide unique access to leading musicians and scholars through specialized workshops and events hosted by various college departments.
Prospective voice students must fulfill these admission prerequisites:
A repertoire equivalent to UNT's Bachelor of Music voice major requirements.
A memorized 20-minute faculty jury performance featuring works in Italian, French, German, and English, plus one operatic aria and one oratorio selection. Specific audition guidelines are available from the Vocal Studies division chair during registration.
