The School of Theatre provides an MFA in Drama with an Acting specialization. This terminal master's degree focuses on cultivating personal artistry while delivering advanced, specialized acting training. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, our graduate program blends theoretical knowledge with practical application, fostering skill and talent development. Alongside rigorous coursework, students engage in a robust co-curricular program featuring participation in the school's vibrant theatre productions, such as UNCG Theatre and N.C. Theatre for Young People.

UNC Greensboro holds accreditation from both the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST).
Additionally, the School of Theatre maintains memberships with prominent theatre organizations like USITT, SETC, TCG, and AATE.

Qualification Requirements

In addition to the application materials required by the Graduate School applicants must submit a detailed resume of theatre experience and participate in an interview

Acting concentration applicants are required to audition Music Direction for Musical Theatre concentration applicants are required to audition and interview and applicants to the Design and the Theatre for Youth concentrations must submit a portfolio Please contact individual programs for specific program requirements

Admission to the Schools degree programs is very competitive Marginal compliance with the requirements does not automatically imply admission

Students entering the program normally have an undergraduate degree in Theatre with a strong background in the concentration they wish to pursue Exceptions are occasionally made for students with significant professional or practical experience For the Design concentration an undergraduate degree in a related field may be acceptable Students admitted without the appropriate undergraduate background will be expected to complete remedial work in addition to normal degree requirements

The Graduate School requires a course-by-course evaluation report showing completion of a bachelors and a graduate degree if required by the program that is equivalent to a US degree from an international college or university recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or Commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned.
Students enter Graduate School with no academic standing and are expected to earn at least a GPA of 3.0 in their first semester to be placed in Academic Good Standing Continuing students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in all graduate course work at UNCG to remain in Academic Good Standing.
Academic Transcripts - For US transcripts please follow the normal protocol from your institution when ordering official transcripts For Undergraduate Admissions the International Recruitment and Admissions Office accepts stamped copies of high school transcripts from US community colleges.
