The Master of Public Administration program offers comprehensive education and professional training for careers in public service and nonprofit organizations, while advancing the discipline through academic research and community engagement. MPA candidates can specialize in various fields: Non-Profit Leadership, Urban Governance & Policy, Arts Management, Crisis Preparedness, and Government Finance.
To earn the degree, students must complete 39 graduate credit hours through three sequential phases: (1) foundational courses, (2) specialization electives, and (3) research components. The curriculum examines crucial subjects including governmental structures and legal frameworks, socioeconomic factors, organizational leadership strategies, public financial management principles, and data-driven decision-making tools. While most credits must be earned after program admission, up to six (6) pre-admission graduate hours may count toward degree requirements with the MPA Director's approval. All participants must fulfill a practical experience component through either an approved internship or relevant professional activities (refer to Professional Involvement and Internship options). Beyond coursework, students must develop and present a capstone project addressing a substantive issue in their field.
