The MArch I program offers a NAAB-accredited professional degree tailored for individuals holding undergraduate degrees in fields outside architecture (such as Business, Engineering, or Political Science). This program attracts both career changers and those who chose a liberal arts education before diving into architectural studies.
The MArch I concentration provides a NAAB-accredited professional degree for students with non-architecture undergraduate backgrounds. The first year focuses on mastering visual and spatial design principles, conceptual thinking, problem-solving, and understanding material and environmental factors. Alongside design studio work, students explore introductory courses in architectural history, theory, building technology, and representation. By the second year, they merge with MArch II students to tackle advanced design studios alongside studies in modern theory, building technology, computational approaches, design methods, and elective topics. The final year features an integrated project studio and culminates in a research-focused graduate thesis studio, supplemented by coursework in architectural research, professional practice, and additional electives.
