The Department of Animal and Range Sciences provides graduate programs in range science, awarding both Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Students can specialize in diverse fields such as range ecology, animal and plant nutrition, plant classification, land rehabilitation, wildlife behavior studies, plant-animal relationships, range physiology, grazing systems, invasive species management, plant stress physiology, and water resource conservation. Additionally, the department participates in the new interdisciplinary graduate program for Water Science and Management, offering M.S. and Ph.D. degrees through the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences (ACES).

Qualification Requirements

A GPA of 3.0 or higher is required for admission. GRE exam is not required. Prerequisite for admission as a regular graduate student in the department is the completion of a curriculum substantially equivalent to that required of undergraduate students. Therefore, deficiency courses may be required after admission to the program, as determined by the admissions committee and the student's graduate committee and advisor.

A student seeking admission to graduate school at NMSU must hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree or an advanced degree from a regionally accredited institution. The academic program of the completed degree should be equivalent to a comparable NMSU degree's requirements.
