Students pursuing Honors distinction must inform the Department Honors Committee about their intended research proposal in the semester before beginning the project. They are also required to submit an Application for Admission to Candidacy to the Honors Council. Approval from both the Department Honors Committee and the Honors Council is mandatory for a student to be recognized as an Honors candidate.
Faculty serving on the Department Honors Committee are excluded from assessing projects they oversee. In such cases, a different faculty member will join the committee to evaluate the project. If the Department Honors Committee determines a project merits Honors recognition, they will notify both the Department Chair and the Honors Council. If the committee concludes the project doesn't meet Honors standards, students will still receive the grade assigned by their supervising faculty member. The Honors designation will be recorded on the student's official academic transcript.
