The Bioinformatics Concentration equips students with modern techniques for managing and analyzing data, along with insights into key aspects of research design, statistical interpretation, and genomics applications.
The B.A. in Computer Science with a Bioinformatics focus demands a streamlined computer science foundation (15 credits). This specialization involves 14 credits of interdisciplinary coursework combining biology and chemistry, whereas other Computer Science B.A. concentrations mandate 15 credits in a secondary field outside computing - fulfilled either through a dual major, minor, or advisor-approved course sequence. B.A. graduates will possess both computer science expertise and complementary knowledge in an applied field. This program prioritizes practical computing skills over theoretical/mathematical approaches.
