The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology is a comprehensive program designed for students pursuing biology with an emphasis on physics, chemistry, and mathematics, as well as those preparing for pre-medical or pre-dental studies.
The Bioinformatics Concentration is available to Biology, Mathematics, and Computer Science majors.
To earn a Bioinformatics Concentration, students must complete specific core and elective courses. Credits from a student's primary major can also apply to Bioinformatics requirements. For instance, foundational Biology courses meet the BIOL 2000+ elective requirement, while BIOL 4200, BIOL 5240, or BIOL 6160 can count toward both Biology electives and Bioinformatics. Computer Science majors inherently satisfy the three CS course requirement through their standard curriculum. Those pursuing the B.S. track will also meet the Probability requirement via CSCI 2244 (Randomness and Computation).
