The Doctor of Philosophy in Health Behavior program prepares students to conduct pioneering research that enhances comprehension of health-related behaviors and their influencing factors across all societal levels, addressing key public health challenges. PhD candidates acquire expertise in the empirical, conceptual and theoretical frameworks of the discipline, research methodologies, intervention design and assessment, along with professional growth subjects. Alumni utilize their education to investigate pressing public health concerns both nationally and internationally.
At the Gillings School, the Department of Health Behavior offers Master of Public Health specializations in global health and health behavior, plus a combined master's program and PhD degree. Our learners cultivate essential competencies to become transformative leaders tackling public health threats worldwide, such as: violence, obesity, cancer, HIV/AIDS, health policy and inequities in healthcare access.
