The Bachelor of Fine Arts with an Art History concentration was created to enable students to focus deeply on both studio art and art history studies. Essentially, this program combines a dual major in studio art and art history. Exclusive to UNC-Chapel Hill, this degree has proven popular among students aiming for graduate programs that require expertise in both historical knowledge and practical skills, including curatorial work, museum studies, or art education. Those enrolled in this program receive guidance from the undergraduate studies directors for both studio art and art history. Prospective students should reach out to both advisors by their second year at the latest. Important: All Foundations, Approaches, and Connections requirements [GB1] must be fulfilled. Due to the higher number of required Art Department credits for the BFA and BFA/AH degrees, these students are exempt from Supplemental General Education requirements. Be advised that any additional Art Department courses beyond the specified major credit limits will not apply toward graduation requirements.
