The Department of Religious Studies focuses on analyzing religions as cultural and historical developments. It investigates the origins, sacred writings, material objects, doctrines, ethical systems, and ceremonial practices of diverse faiths like Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. With its fundamentally cross-disciplinary methodology, the program examines religious traditions through the lens of connected academic disciplines including anthropology, classical studies, archaeology, sociology, philosophy, and historical research.
All students will be expected to have completed the pre-university curriculum (Secondary School/High School) in their country prior to enrolling at UNC-Chapel Hill. English Language Tests: TOEFL minimum is 100; IELTS minimum is 7.0; PTE minimum is 68.
