The Cultural Studies program caters to undergraduates seeking to integrate diverse academic disciplines within the College of Arts and Sciences. Like other interdisciplinary fields, Cultural Studies majors typically demonstrate strong motivation, self-discipline, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to design their own academic path. This undergraduate program stands out through personalized advising, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and experiential learning opportunities beyond traditional classrooms. Participants are urged to engage in study abroad programs, off-campus internships, and campus research groups. The Cultural Studies major welcomes students with varied interests—from science's societal impacts to migrant worker issues or architecture's psychological effects—all connected by examining culture's intricate, evolving mechanisms in different contexts.
All students will be expected to have completed the pre-university curriculum (Secondary School/High School) in their country prior to enrolling at UNC-Chapel Hill. English Language Tests: TOEFL minimum is 100; IELTS minimum is 7.0; PTE minimum is 68.
