Students majoring in American studies gain an understanding of U.S. cultural dynamics, equipping them to contribute thoughtfully and analytically across various career paths. The American studies program offers five specialized tracks, each with unique graduation criteria. The undergraduate curriculum centers on two foundational courses in interdisciplinary cultural analysis. Additionally, students must complete at least two advanced departmental seminars that explore faculty expertise and evolving trends in American studies. To fulfill remaining requirements, majors take complementary electives from more than twelve university departments, broadening their interdisciplinary knowledge of American heritage, institutions, creative works, and diverse viewpoints. For further information, reach out to the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
All students will be expected to have completed the pre-university curriculum (Secondary School/High School) in their country prior to enrolling at UNC-Chapel Hill. English Language Tests: TOEFL minimum is 100; IELTS minimum is 7.0; PTE minimum is 68.
