The NonThesis Terminal M.S. Degree Program offers bachelor's degree holders an opportunity to earn a master's degree through advanced chemistry coursework. Designed for working professionals, classes meet from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. CST Monday through Wednesday (excluding seminars).
Students must complete 30 credit hours, including at least 21 graduate-level chemistry credits and up to 9 credits from other UNO graduate programs. A key requirement involves preparing and delivering a literature seminar based on current chemical/biochemical research during the intended graduation semester, which also serves as the comprehensive examination. While most students complete the program in three semesters, those engaged in faculty-supervised research may finish in two.
This M.S. program does not allow direct transfers to the Ph.D. program, though students may apply separately. Participants are self-funded and ineligible for departmental assistantships, but may qualify for the Graduate School's competitive Master's Scholarship.
