Welcome to the Chemistry Department at the University of Maine. As the sole institution in Maine providing Ph.D. and M.S. programs in chemistry, we take great pride in our academic offerings. Most of our graduate students pursue Ph.D. studies, with first-year students typically receiving teaching assistant positions. Research assistantships become available, generally starting in the second year. We ensure continuous financial support for all students maintaining satisfactory progress until degree completion.
Wood Chemistry

This field relies heavily on analytical instruments to examine forest product composition and processing techniques. Our wood chemistry program stands unique among U.S. chemistry departments.
