The Composition program combines one-on-one instruction, collaborative workshops, and foundational classes to cultivate each student's unique artistic expression. Working with renowned faculty and visiting artists, students gain essential skills for contemporary composers. They also receive numerous chances to have their compositions evaluated and performed by university groups and distinguished guest artists.
Cutting-edge facilities enable innovative work with the latest technologies, while UNO's theater and film departments - closely connected to local stage productions and Louisiana's thriving film industry ("Hollywood South") - provide practical experience in musical scoring and audio post-production.
Beyond core curriculum requirements, students must complete a full-length recital, assemble a portfolio containing at least 30 minutes of original work, and successfully pass both written and oral comprehensive exams.
