The Africana Studies program at UNO is managed through the BA in International Studies within the College of Liberal Arts. This curriculum provides diverse literature, history, and social science classes designed to familiarize students with contemporary and historical perspectives on the African diaspora across Africa, the Americas, and globally, incorporating courses from Liberal Arts and other approved college offerings.
BAIS participants can specialize in Africana Studies or complement their studies with an interdisciplinary minor in this field.
International Studies majors have the option to focus on Africana Studies, which cultivates analytical insights into Africa's and its diaspora's historical, cultural, social, and political dimensions. This specialization equips students for advanced academic pursuits or professional paths in law, business, education, media, government, and creative fields.
