The Museum Studies Program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that gives students comprehensive training in key areas of museology. This program provides practical museum skills while allowing customization based on individual career goals.

Students gain preparation for diverse museum professions such as: collections specialists, registration professionals, education coordinators, exhibition designers, park guides, curators, and management roles. The program also benefits those pursuing careers as environmental educators, heritage interpreters, or wildlife specialists. Certain graduates may opt for doctoral studies to qualify for senior curatorial positions in museum settings.

Qualification Requirements

A Letter of Intent, CV or Resume, Three Letters of Recommendation, Test Scores and/or a writing sample, and Transcripts from All Academic Institutions Attended. Official GRE Test Scores and Transcripts must be sent to the UNM Admissions Office. Unofficial copies of transcripts from all schools attended, including unofficial transcripts from UNM, and GRE scores are required to be uploaded into the UNM Graduate Admissions Application.

Graduate applicants must have an earned degree that is equivalent to the U.S. bachelor's degree.
A minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a U.S. 4.0 scale) or comparable grade point average in upper-division (junior and senior level) work and in any graduate work already completed.
