String Pedagogy provides a Master of Music program specializing in String Pedagogy. Our pedagogy students receive private instruction from UNM's exceptional faculty and participate in the UNM Symphony Orchestra, enhancing their learning experience. Graduate students have the option to combine String Pedagogy with Instrumental Performance as a dual focus. The program features an intensive curriculum covering various teaching methodologies, including those of Ivan Galamian, John Kendall, Paul Rolland, and Shinichi Suzuki. Cross-disciplinary studies incorporate topics such as Child Development, Cognitive Psychology, Motivation Theories, Parental Guidance, Studio Management, and Adapting to Diverse Learning Styles. Financial support is available through substantial scholarships and graduate assistantships.

Qualification Requirements

A candidate for the Master of Music degree must have an undergraduate degree in music from an accredited college or equivalent proficiency. An applicant without a music degree will be required to take a proctored test before being admitted, he or she may have to do undergraduate work before becoming a graduate student.
A minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a U.S. 4.0 scale) or comparable grade point average in upper-division (junior and senior level) work and in any graduate work already completed.
