Art & Ecology is a cross-disciplinary, research-focused academic initiative exploring modern artistic approaches. Both graduate and undergraduate students cultivate environmental and cultural awareness through theoretical grounding and diverse creative techniques, spanning drawing, sculpture, social engagement, performance, and digital arts.

Upper-level studies feature the RAVEL Labs curriculum, providing regionally grounded, field-oriented professional training. Participants in Art & Ecology can engage in numerous cross-departmental collaborations at UNM and develop in-depth thesis work combining community studies with ecological investigation.

Qualification Requirements

A prospective student in the graduate studio program must have completed an undergraduate degree. Some academic background in art studio and art history is recommended, however, the portfolio and letter of intent are weighted more heavily in the application process.
