The German Studies graduate program provides both comprehensive historical coverage and specialized focus areas aligned with faculty expertise. Our curriculum explores the artistic, philosophical, and literary developments of enlightenment, romanticism, and realism periods, alongside contemporary theoretical and cultural movements from the 20th century onward. Regularly scheduled core courses examine influential authors, artistic principles, and cultural developments spanning the 18th to 21st centuries, incorporating critical theory, cinema studies, and gender studies. Recent specialized offerings have addressed varied subjects including political violence, folklore narratives, and representations of collective memory in literature and theory. All graduate-level instruction is conducted in either German or English.
