The Department of Spanish & Portuguese at UNM serves a crucial function within the state's premier bilingual university, educating students about the languages, cultures, and literary traditions of Hispanic and Portuguese-speaking regions.

Our department provides instruction in three core language programs: Spanish for non-native speakers, Spanish for heritage learners, and Brazilian Portuguese. At both undergraduate and graduate levels, we offer specializations in Hispanic Linguistics, Hispanic Literature (covering both Peninsular and Spanish American works), Hispanic Southwest Studies, and Portuguese Studies.
