The Nuclear Engineering Department (NE) at The University of New Mexico extends a warm welcome to both current and prospective graduate students. Our dedicated faculty, staff, and student community are committed to helping you discover, study, and engage with this dynamic and specialized field.
Nuclear Engineering students receive thorough academic guidance. We strongly recommend regular meetings with both research advisors and Professional Academic Advisors (staff members) during your graduate studies for ongoing support. First-semester students without a Research Advisor will receive mentorship from either the NE Graduate Director or the Professional Academic Advisor.
All students must satisfy both university-wide requirements and specific program criteria for their chosen degree. Graduate programs involve mandatory procedures with strict deadlines. To facilitate your progress, we've provided overviews of the requirements for Master's Plan I (Thesis option), Master's Plan II (Non-Thesis), Plan III (Coursework only), and PhD programs to ensure efficient degree completion.
