The MD/PhD program offers dual training in clinical practice and biomedical research, creating a unified educational path for earning both degrees. This integrated approach allows students to engage in medical studies and PhD research simultaneously, blending activities from both disciplines.
The structured timeline begins with two years of medical coursework, followed by 3-4 years dedicated to graduate studies and dissertation work, culminating in the final two years of medical training. Typically completed in 7-8 years, students receive both degrees upon finishing all requirements. Early in the program, participants complete two month-long lab rotations to explore different research specialties before choosing their focus area. The curriculum supports diverse research opportunities across biomedical fields within the School of Medicine, including animal-based studies for many MD/PhD candidates.
