UNM's Exercise Science program aims to equip students with comprehensive knowledge, practical experience, and ethical principles in human physiology and movement studies to excel in their chosen careers, professional fields, or advanced academics. This goal is accomplished through interactive lectures, hands-on lab work, research opportunities, and service-learning initiatives that foster analytical thinking, technical abilities, clear communication, and enthusiasm for continuous education. The bachelor's and master's programs ready students for further studies in healthcare fields like Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, nursing, or medicine, as well as for professional roles as exercise specialists in fitness centers, workplace wellness programs, educational institutions, and clinical environments. The doctoral program trains future researchers, educators, and leaders in preventive and rehabilitative programs.
By engaging in scientific research, Exercise Science students and distinguished faculty work alongside community partners to address health, fitness, and human performance challenges at personal, local, and global levels. New Mexico's diverse communities offer our program exceptional chances to positively influence residents through science-based, culturally appropriate guidance about active living benefits, aligned with professional organization standards and national health objectives.
