The UNM College of Education & Human Sciences (COEHS) program is dedicated to equipping future educators to address the varied requirements of New Mexico's youth. We honor the state's vibrant cultural heritage and have tailored our coursework to accommodate these distinctive characteristics. Our secondary Education student teaching initiative serves as a dual learning experience, bridging university instruction with real-world classroom practice. We aim to seamlessly integrate academic knowledge with hands-on teaching experience under the mentorship of seasoned Cooperating Teachers.
The Bachelor's Degree pathway (B.A.Ed. or B.S.Ed.) in Secondary Education prepares candidates for teaching roles in middle schools, junior highs, or high schools (grades 7-12). This comprehensive program consists of three key elements:
Core General Education
Specialized Teaching Field Concentrations
Essential Professional Education Components
