The Africana Studies program offers an interdisciplinary major that grants degrees, delivering an African-American viewpoint on topics crucial to educating individuals, particularly African Americans, for contemporary society. Several courses within this program are jointly offered with departments such as Political Science, Language, Literacy and Sociocultural Studies, American Studies, English, Communication, and Journalism. Students can apply these courses toward their degree, substitute them for required classes with departmental approval, or take them as electives. This program examines the historical, social, political, cultural, and economic aspects of North American communities with African diaspora roots, primarily concentrating on the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean while also acknowledging Latin American connections.
