Human activities in marine environments, such as fishing, aquaculture, energy production, and tourism, have grown substantially over the last twenty years. Coastal regions, known for their rich biodiversity and abundant resources, also feature some of the most desirable property globally. Competing uses, conflicting priorities, and economic and social reliance on these areas lead to increasingly intricate challenges in sustainability, environmental regulations, and resource governance. The Marine Resource Sustainability Concentration equips students for roles in policy development, natural resource stewardship, and other fields focused on researching and shaping decisions about the long-term viability of marine and coastal ecosystems.
