The undergraduate Nutrition and Dietetics Program holds accreditation as a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) from ACEND, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' accrediting body. Its updated curriculum equips students for careers as registered dietitians, featuring rigorous coursework in mathematics and sciences. The nutrition and dietetics classes cover all ACEND-mandated competency areas while incorporating university-wide and School of Health Sciences core requirements. The program also includes essential Academic Service Learning (S-designated) community nutrition experiences and Writing (W-designated) courses. Graduates obtain a Verification Statement from the Program Director, qualifying them for: 1) dietetic internships (supervised practice), 2) coordinated graduate programs (with supervised practice), 3) future education graduate model programs, or 4) eligibility for the national registration exam. Starting January 1, 2024, candidates must complete a graduate degree alongside or integrated with supervised practice to qualify for the RD/RDN credential exam. Students typically apply for dietetic internship matching in their final year. These accredited internships offer roughly 1200 hours of supervised training to prepare candidates for the RD/RDN credentialing examination.
