Earning a Master of Education in secondary education equips you with the expertise, practical skills, and theoretical foundation to excel in modern classrooms. Through coursework, research, and hands-on training in diverse school settings, you'll develop the confidence to inspire students. The program emphasizes creating supportive, collaborative learning environments, with internship opportunities in both urban and rural schools serving varied populations. Our curriculum cultivates educator-leaders—skilled professionals committed to enhancing education both inside and outside their classrooms. While the M.Ed. provides secondary teaching certification, the M.A.T. offers deeper subject specialization alongside pedagogical training.
UNH offers flexible entry points—you can join the secondary education program as a graduate student or through our accelerated master's pathway. The accelerated option lets undergraduates start with introductory fieldwork and education courses before transitioning to a fifth-year internship that culminates in both the M.Ed. degree and teaching licensure.
The undergraduate record. The undergraduate overall minimum grade point average for admission is 3.0. The undergraduate grade point average of students admitted to the graduate programs in teacher education is approximately 3.55 (based on 2020 admissions).
English Language Score:
Minimum score requirements are as follows: TOEFL (Computer-based): 213; TOEFL (Internet-based): 80; IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.5; TOEFL ITP (Institution Administered): On case-by-case basis; TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication): On case-by-case basis; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 59.
Applications must be completed by the following deadlines in order to be reviewed for admission: Fall: April 15; Spring: November 1; Summer: April 15.
