The Master of Arts in Music with a concentration in conducting helps students refine their abilities in every facet of ensemble leadership, from conducting techniques to rehearsal strategies, repertoire selection, and program management. Participants can specialize in choral, orchestral, or wind ensemble direction while having the flexibility to investigate other musical disciplines. The degree concludes with a conducting recital and/or notable performances alongside the university's premier ensembles. Our diverse faculty expertise covers all musical genres, historical periods, and methodological approaches, making this program ideal for both aspiring educators and conductors entering the field directly, as well as those planning to pursue doctoral studies in conducting. This conducting specialization within the MA program provides comprehensive training in either instrumental or choral direction, designed for educators seeking to enhance their classroom capabilities or for students aiming to advance to doctoral-level conducting programs.
International applicants must hold a four-year baccalaureate degree or its equivalent as a precondition for applying to any of our graduate programs. In some cases, you may also need a master’s degree or its equivalent.

Minimum score requirements are as follows: TOEFL (Computer-based): 213; TOEFL (Internet-based): 80; IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.5; TOEFL ITP (Institution Administered): On case-by-case basis; TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication): On case-by-case basis; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 59.
Applications must be completed by the following deadlines in order to be reviewed for admission: Fall: April 1 (recommended US; final international); July 1 (final); Spring: Dec. 1.
