Earning an M.A. in History provides you with sophisticated insights into how past societies, cultures, economies, political systems, scientific developments, and artistic movements have influenced the modern world. Our Master of Arts program offers exceptional flexibility, allowing you to customize your studies to align with your academic and professional goals. Our distinguished faculty specialize in diverse historical periods, geographic regions, and thematic areas, with particular expertise in cultural studies, gender history, military conflicts, religious traditions, Atlantic world studies, and the history of science and innovation. Throughout this graduate program, you'll develop essential skills in historical research methodologies and scholarly writing that will equip you for professional opportunities or further academic pursuits.
The Master of Arts curriculum is designed with adaptable structures, enabling each student to create a personalized course of study. Every MA candidate will collaborate with a three-faculty advisory committee for their culminating academic experience. This committee may serve as either a thesis review panel, an oral examination board, or (for museum studies concentrators) a project evaluation team.
International applicants must hold a four-year baccalaureate degree or its equivalent as a precondition for applying to any of our graduate programs. In some cases, you may also need a master’s degree or its equivalent.
