Our microbiology Ph.D. program offers a vibrant curriculum spanning diverse disciplines alongside cross-cutting research opportunities at microbiology's cutting edge, including host-microbe relationships and environmental studies. Graduates emerge ready for leadership roles in biotech firms, pharmaceutical companies, academic institutions, government labs, and university teaching/research positions.
The program focuses on interdisciplinary research training in emerging fields like microbial pathogenesis, immunology, environmental microbiology, cellular signaling, molecular microbiology, genomic sciences, microbial ecology, and biotechnological applications. Students utilize advanced instrumentation, gaining hands-on facility experience through initial lab rotations. The program features weekly graduate seminars, guest speaker series, and teaching opportunities through graduate assistantships.
International applicants must hold a four-year baccalaureate degree or its equivalent as a precondition for applying to any of our graduate programs. In some cases, you may also need a master’s degree or its equivalent.
Students must have a completion of foundational courses in biology, chemistry (including organic chemistry), physics, genetics, and mathematics.
English Language Score:
Minimum score requirements are as follows: TOEFL (Computer-based): 213; TOEFL (Internet-based): 80; IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 6.5; TOEFL ITP (Institution Administered): On case-by-case basis; TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication): On case-by-case basis; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 59.
Applications must be completed by the following deadlines in order to be reviewed for admission: Fall: 12/15.
