Neuroscience and behavior is an interdisciplinary domain exploring how the nervous system interacts with actions and responses in humans and animals. While scientific knowledge about neural functions and behavioral links grows quickly, mysteries remain regarding the brain, sensory systems, and their roles in human growth, reproduction, thinking, memory formation, stress responses, focus regulation, and other processes. Studying animal conduct—from feeding and mating patterns to communication, nurturing behaviors, predator evasion, migration, and reactions to human-caused environmental changes—holds equal significance in our rapidly evolving world.
The neuroscience and behavior bachelor's program (NSB) allows students to merge passions for neurobiology and behavioral studies. NSB undergraduates participate in practical lab work alongside psychology and biology professors, mastering advanced tools and methodologies. The department boasts nine on-site research facilities, such as the Integrative Animal Behavior and Ecoacoustics Lab and Confocal Imaging Center, plus off-campus locations including Jackson Estuarine Lab, Coastal Marine Lab, and Shoals Marine Lab. With its forward-thinking coursework, distinguished faculty, and immersive research options, the program equips graduates for advanced academic pursuits and professional careers.
