The Departmental Honors program enables students to engage in rigorous, specialized work within their academic disciplines. This initiative focuses on personalized, student-driven learning plans and fosters collaborative partnerships between students and professors.
Any UNH student meeting the GPA requirements may participate in Departmental Honors. While University Honors Program participants must complete Departmental Honors to earn an Honors degree distinction, enrollment in the University Honors Program isn't mandatory for pursuing Departmental Honors.
For Marine, Estuarine and Freshwater Biology majors to qualify for Departmental Honors graduation, they must fulfill 16 credits of honors coursework at the 500-level or above, selecting from required MEFB courses or approved electives. This includes completing at least 4 credits of BIOL 799 (Honors Research/Thesis) while maintaining a minimum 3.40 GPA both overall and in major-specific courses. Prospective Honors candidates should consult with the MEFB Program Honors Liaison, ideally prior to starting their junior year.
