The Departmental Honors program enables students to engage in rigorous, specialized work within their academic disciplines. This initiative focuses on personalized, student-driven learning plans and fosters collaborative partnerships between undergraduates and professors.
Any UNH student meeting GPA requirements may participate in Departmental Honors. While University Honors Program participants must complete Departmental Honors to earn an Honors degree distinction, membership in the University Honors Program isn't required for Departmental Honors participation.
Biology majors seeking Honors in Major must fulfill 16 credits of 500+ level honors courses in biological sciences, with at least 4 credits from BIOL 799 (Honors Research/Thesis), while maintaining a 3.40 GPA both overall and in major requirements. Prospective Biology Departmental Honors candidates should consult with the Biology Program Honors Liaison, ideally prior to their junior year.
