This program is designed for students seeking a comprehensive education and foundational knowledge in earth sciences, offering more flexibility in elective selection compared to Bachelor of Science programs. The earth sciences B.A. serves as an excellent complement to other majors or minors, and through strategic elective choices, students can prepare for graduate studies, professional programs, or careers in business and industry.
UNH's prime location near the Great Bay Estuary and White Mountains creates an exceptional environment for hands-on learning in earth sciences. Students enjoy diverse opportunities to engage in field research and work in cutting-edge laboratories, with competitive funding available to support these experiences. Geoscientist employment is expected to grow 14% between 2016 and 2026—outpacing many fields—driven by growing demands in energy, environmental conservation, and sustainable resource management. Graduates may also apply their geoscience expertise to policy, business, or legal professions.
The Department of Earth Sciences offers this bachelor of arts degree, enabling students to gain wide-ranging earth science knowledge with greater elective flexibility than traditional science programs. By thoughtfully selecting electives, students can prepare for careers in industry, public service, non-profits, or academia—or combine with education certification programs for secondary school teaching careers.
