The Master of Arts program aims to:
Provide advanced, specialized political science coursework culminating in a graduate degree
Equip students for doctoral studies and careers in political science
Enable career preparation in teaching, politics, government service, or professional enhancement
Facilitate university research on political and policy issues
Political science courses encompass the entire discipline, covering both content and research approaches. Methodology courses develop skills for analyzing political systems, institutions, and policies. Students pursue specialized interests through independent research projects.
The M.A. curriculum delivers comprehensive disciplinary knowledge and methodological training, with concentrations in American Politics, Political Theory, Public Policy/Administration, International Relations, and Comparative Politics. Our department focuses on undergraduate/graduate education, research, and public service. The program's intimate size allows close faculty mentorship and collaboration with senior students to customize studies toward research and career objectives.

Undergraduate degree (B.A./B.S)
18 previously-completed credit hours (six courses) in social science courses (broadly defined)
Minimum 2.75 overall GPA (B.A./B.S.) or a 3.0 GPA for last two years of B.A./B.S.
GRE Scores (Please note: GRE/GMAT requirement waived for those applying to Fall 2021): GRE scores must be from an examination taken in the previous five years. The GRE scores are required by the department and the Graduate School and cannot be waived. The department is willing to accept GMAT scores in substitution.
