The Master of Arts program in the Anthropology Department provides an intensive educational experience, enabling students to focus on one of four core areas: Archaeology (Historical or Prehistoric), Biological Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, or Linguistic Anthropology.
This graduate program equips students for diverse professional opportunities in fields such as higher education, advisory services, global development, and public sector positions. Beyond core classes, the curriculum prioritizes practical research and methodological precision, giving students the tools needed for sophisticated anthropological inquiry and specialized investigations. The program structure fosters a comprehensive grasp of human cultures and social systems, empowering graduates to make valuable contributions to cross-disciplinary scholarship and worldwide challenges.
Participants should demonstrate proficiency in articulating how the four anthropological sub-disciplines interconnect conceptually, along with each field's significant contributions to understanding humanity through both scientific and humanistic lenses.
Graduates will be well-positioned to secure professional roles in their chosen specialization or gain admission to PhD programs at institutions across the United States.
Those earning an M.A. in Anthropology from UNR will possess demonstrated capabilities in conducting independent research.
