The Atmospheric Sciences Graduate program's Ph.D. aims to develop students' critical thinking skills, fostering innovative concepts that enhance our comprehension of the earth-atmosphere system through process studies, modeling, and instrumentation. This program caters to students passionate about researching diverse atmospheric science areas: atmospheric technology, cloud and aerosol physics, climate patterns, remote sensing, weather prediction, atmospheric chemistry, air pollution's health effects, meteorology, mesoscale modeling, fire weather and wildfire plume behavior, instrument design, radiative forcing, turbulence, sustainable energy solutions, and greenhouse gases' role in climate change.
Earning a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences opens doors to various career paths such as atmospheric researcher, postdoctoral scholar, academic faculty positions, air quality specialist, climate scientist, environmental analyst, monitoring expert, and weather forecaster.
It is strongly recommended that an applicant have a master’s degree in an aspect of atmospheric sciences, physical sciences, chemistry, engineering, mathematics or a related field, and at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average in prior academic coursework.
Minimum score requirements: TOEFL: 550 (paper) or 79 (internet); IELTS: 6.5 (academic version); Duolingo: 105 is required.
