The department provides a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Science through two distinct pathways. The Three-Year Program involves completing a foundational pre-veterinary curriculum (covering the University Core Curriculum and total credit requirements) over three years, meeting the admission standards for most veterinary schools. Students must then gain acceptance to a veterinary program and finish 30 semester units. Alternatively, the Four-Year Program includes the same three-year pre-veterinary curriculum plus an additional year of undergraduate coursework, culminating in a four-year BS degree in Veterinary Science. Nevada residents may qualify for the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) program, which supports enrollment at select professional schools and reduces out-of-state tuition costs. The university's pre-veterinary program provides dedicated advising, hands-on internships with veterinary professionals, and scholarships from the Gordon MacMillan endowment. Veterinary schools evaluate applicants based on academic excellence, application materials, hands-on veterinary experience, recommendations, motivation, interviews, and exam results.

Students will develop the ability to:
apply technical proficiency in their chosen field.
communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, within their discipline.
utilize critical thinking to identify problems, gather and analyze relevant data, and propose potential solutions.
