The Rangeland Ecology & Management program is delivered by the Department of Agriculture, Veterinary and Rangeland Sciences (AVRS). This course of study equips students with a comprehensive, multidisciplinary background for making scientifically informed choices in natural resource stewardship. Graduates gain expertise in synthesizing data on plant ecosystems, soil composition, animal species, grazing practices, water systems, GIS technology, and land use regulations to preserve and rehabilitate rangeland environments.
This academic program fulfills U.S. Civil Service qualifications for range and soil conservation positions. By completing select additional coursework, students can also qualify for soil scientist and ecologist roles. Program alumni typically find employment with federal agencies like the Bureau of Land Management, Natural Resource Conservation Service, and Forest Service, or with private firms specializing in rangeland restoration, assessment, or administration.
