The Dietetics Specialization offers comprehensive training for students aspiring to careers in nutrition and dietetics. This program incorporates the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Accreditation Council. Nutrition and dietetics professionals enjoy expanding career prospects across healthcare, corporate settings, public health, academia, research, and private consulting. Some positions mandate Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification, while others require Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered (NDTR) credentials. The curriculum establishes a strong base for obtaining these professional qualifications.
Multiple pathways exist to achieve RDN certification. The typical route involves: 1) earning a bachelor's degree alongside a DPD (like the Dietetic Specialization), 2) completing an accredited post-graduate dietetic internship, and 3) passing a national certification exam. Important note: Starting January 1, 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) will mandate a master's degree minimum for RDN exam eligibility.
Students will develop the ability to:
apply scientific principles underlying nutritional science.
evaluate and synthesize research literature to inform evidence-based professional practice.
